Jackson Cameo Shocks Akon Songwriter

Singer and songwriter Claude Kelly wrote the "Hold My Hand" track for Akon, and he admits that hearing Michael Jackson's voice on the song the first time was a big surprise to him.

"I wrote the song and gave it to Akon with the intention of it going to maybe Whitney Houston, but Akon said he wanted to cut it himself. I thought, 'It doesn't get any bigger than this'," the 27-year-old New York native tells Billboard.com. "A few months after, Akon plays the song for me and all of a sudden I hear Michael Jackson's voice. I was literally shaking by the time the song was over."

Akon, Kardinal Offishall, Rihanna and JabbaWockeeZ are among the performers set for MuchMusic Video Awards 2008. This year's lineup also includes Sean Kingston, Flo Rida, Simple Plan, IllScarlett and Hedley. The ceremony will take place in Toronto on June 15th.

Phil Collins is considering joining forces with Pharell Williams and Akon so as to give his music a modern twist. The legendary singer said that he was very surprised when he heard that the both singers wanted to work with him and were big fans of his music!

Little more than a month ago, The Smoking Gun published an article claiming Akon manufactured most of his past as the ringleader of a "notorious" car-theft ring and that he didn't spend four and a half years in prison, as he has said. Instead, the Web site reported, Akon spent only a few months in an Atlanta jail for stealing a single car, according to police, court and corrections records.

Akon Put Off His Concert Due to Illness

Akon's show at Lugogo Cricket Oval on Friday, May 2 was postponed due to illness. The concert will be rescheduled to May 9.

Akon's mahager said that he suffered from a sore throat only hours to his departure for Kampala. He also added, "There is no way we could have predicted it or stopped it. Such things happen in business but we are certain we will be well soon and be in Kampala by a private jet on Wednesday to perform on Friday, May 9."

R&B star Akon is keeping an eye on Africa and Europe as a way to find the next "big star" that will eventually join his music label! The Lonely hitmaker is expanding his Konvict Muzik Company with the launch of a new office in London.

The co-owner of Konvict Muzik, Melvin Brown said, "We will be scanning Europe and Africa for the next mega superstars. "When Akon and I partnered and created Konvict Muzik, we agreed that we would have the hottest artists on our roster. I have concentrated on diversifying the artist roster and creating an international presence. I personally look for unique artists."

Concert in Cayman Island is Postponed

Akon's concert in Cayman Island (March 22, 2008) has been postponed, but the organizers of the show confirmed that he will still play in Cayman Island. "This really is just a minor setback. We anticipated some delays-although not as long as this-and we are confident that the Cayman Islands Immigration Department is simply doing its job in making sure we only get the highest caliber of performer here," commented Kenny Rankin, the producer of the event.

According to reports, Akon is going to perform on a "Dance on Sunset" TV show. Janet Jackson, Ashlee Simpson, Sean Kingston, Omarion, Miranda Cosgrove will also perform there. It was officially announced today (11 March) that C-Murder has signed Akon to a book deal with TRU Publishing. The name of Akon's new book will be "Thug Politics" and is the second release from C-Murder’s TRU Publishing company. The book will be launched in April or May, according to a representative for TRU Publishing.

Akon is Going to Help Whitney Houston on Her New Album

According to reports, Akon is going to help Whitney Houston on her upcoming album. He will join Sean Garret and Will.i.am to produce and write songs for the album.

"The voice is there. I don't think anyone could ever take that from her. As long as we apply that voice to hit records, she'll be right back where she left off," Akon commented about Whitney.

The album is to be released on this year's holiday season. "We're on track for a holiday release. We're not going to compromise who she is to fit into today's hip-hop radio market. The public wants Whitney material," said Clive Davis, the CEO of the record label of the album.

Akon reveals that his third album is going to be released very soon! "We're trying to get it out by the first week of May," the singer recently told MTV in LA. "The album is practically done now. It's called Acquitted."

Akon Expects Jackson Commercial for Super Bowl

Akon has given an information about the rumoured commercial that Michael Jackson is doing for the Super Bowl, in spite of the fact that it’s supposed to be top secret. "We just did a commercial - it's a Pepsi commercial. He actually involved me in it so I feel like I'm a part of that process," the singer told The Associated Press. The 25th anniversary edition of Jackson's album "Thriller" will be released next Tuesday, featuring acts like Akon, Fergie and Kanye West. It was also confirmed that the advertising for the album will be featured during the Super Bowl.

During their latest visit in Haiti Wyclef and Akon visited Bel'Air which is no doubt one of the poorest districts in Port-Au-Prince. When going to Haiti Wyclef visits this place from time to time. For Akon this was his first visit and the people were happy to receive them both. Akon ate at a "Yele Cuisine," a restaurant where poor people can get a plate of food. "Yele Cuisine" is supported by the Canadian International Development Agency, which funds the UN's World Food Program.

Akon Concert Canceled After Stage Collapse

Thursday's concert by Akon in Atlanta was canceled after part of the stage collapsed during construction, hurting very seriously 3 workers, who were the part of the crew. Akon, who was to headline the school's Fall Band Party, was not there at the time!

Akon Affirmed That T.I. Was "Set Up"

Not only did Akon stick up for T.I. but he also affirmed that T.I. was "set up" when he took part in a dangerous weapons deal. T.I.'s bodyguard has bought three machine guns and two silencers from a police officer who was disguised as an arms dealer. Apparently the bodyguard was sent by T.I. himself. For that matter T.I. is in custody. Akon said that T.I. should have been more careful, whatever that is supposed to mean. He told MTV: "It's obvious he was set up. But sometimes when you're in a position of that stature and you're that big ... you just don't allow that energy around you. You have to have people around you to let you know or avoid that energy. Even if he was a (gun) collector, naturally, you get a license to collect."
