His name is Akon.
His prodigious debut single under the title "Locked up" was acclaimed, and it still earns imposing numbers around the world, getting a top 5 single in the UK, winning the third place in French charts as well as many other national charts in many areas across Europe. The opening single from "Trouble" became a smash in the US and was a tremendous hit on the rhythm-and-blues and hip-hop charts.
Such countries as Germany, Denmark, France, the UK certainly, Spain and many, many others witnessed monumental performances by Akon. Akon couldn’t ignore his neck of the woods and gave a splendid show in Dakar, Senegal.
No wonder, Akon, this authentic artist, became a singer. It was presupposed by his origin - a boy whose father was a legendary musician Mor Thiam was destined to sing. Being accustomed to feel almost any kind of music, Akon as a genuine musician hates to be limited. Though he has had a bent for hip-hop since he was s teenager, now his style of singing can be characterized as a well-blended mix of hip-hop and R&B. Brian McKnight, Styles P, Baby Bash, Jesse McCartney, Bobby Vinton - all of them made perfect duos with Akon which resulted in fantastic yield.
It will be wrong to say that the Akon’s career was absolutely smooth.
The first single "Bananza" was brought out in 2003, but it was almost unheeded. As a result the release was left until summer 2004.
But there was no second bobble. The single "Locked Up" featuring Styles P. rushed up to the top tens of the charts by the end of the summer. The song lifts the veil from the main idea of the Trouble.
Next was the greatest success up to the moment.
Trouble - that was the title of the Akon’s first album.
It includes songs which are different from the point of view of the style of the music and singing manner. Still, having heard all 13 songs from the album, it is safe to say Akon is not a "pure" rapper. Among hip-hop songs, one can easily feel the influence of both reggae and R&B, mingled with the way of singing peculiar only to this great Senegalese American.

Akon will be working with Slumdog Millionaire composer and fellow musician A.R. Rahman
According to several reports, Senegalese singer Akon will be working with Slumdog Millionaire composer and fellow musician A.R. Rahman on an upcoming album entitled Freedom is Beautiful.
Akon has decided to team up with the award winning Slumdog Millionaire composer for a new album.
News of the collaboration comes shortly after Rahman won an Academy Award for both Best Original Music Score and Best Original Song at the 2009 Oscars for his work on the Slumdog Millionaire score.
The album is said to be a mixture of Hip Hop and bhangra, a form of music from the Punjab region of India.
Since the release of his single “Mr. Lonely” Akon has gradually risen to fame in India.

Akon revealed that he wants to duet with Dizzee Rascal.
He said: "Dizzee is dope. I really like him. I think that whole sound, if it ever breaks outside the UK, is going to be huge, it's so new and fresh. I want to be the one to bring it over to the US and one way would be to get Dizzee on my album."
